i was in tomes a few days ago and we went up against some korean team who absolutely destroyed us (but thats not much of a suprise). it was over before i could even tell exactly what they were running. it appeared to be ~6 ranger and 2 monks. i was playing monk and they way peoples lives would drop was like it does against a spike group (ie all at once). has anybody ever seen/played with a build like this? if so what skills does it use cause i would like to try it out sometime.

Yeah, it's called Ranger doing Damage. Quickshot or other Ranger builds will do this.

Rangers have one way to spike consistently: quickshot. Every other method is some form or another of constant dps. For constant dps, try Melandrus Arrows.

seen a few korean times using the quickshot ranger group recently, it's spike with ~5 rangers focusing on you

Hey Guys.. Sorry for a noob question, but can someone please explain to me what does it mean to "SPIKE"???? What's good about it?
Also what does quick shot have to do with this??? Seems like a crappy skill by itself.
Oh and one more thing. Is there any way a ranger can do 100 or more damage on every shot??? Single target off course. I was playing pve and the enemy ranger was doing 90-117 or so damage to me every time.. and that was on BARRAGE!!!

Spike = Mass damage in a short amount of time, therefore harder to heal.

There is also an Undead Lich in PvE that has 3 lives.

ermm quickshot, used right, is the most powerful thing a ranger could do.
for instance, on my ranger, i run 10 wilderness and 9 fire, this gives 17 damage to kindle, and 10 damage to conjure. most ranger will run atleast 12 marks along with +35% damage to there bows. so thats a 20-37 damage range, along with +27 fire damge from conjure, makes for some really strong bow shots.

now 1 ranger with all that using quickshot and tigers fury is deadly, but put in 4 other rangers and you absolutly slaughter the target

Wanna see a lot of damage without quickshot, 6 rangers with dualshot and vamp bows + 2 necro with order of the vampire and order of pain. Rangers all fire at once, dead target. Don't even need a single point of marksmanship as you'ren ot relying upon bow dmg.

Vamp String: 5 dmg
Order of Pain: 13 dmg
Order of the Vampire: 13 dmg
Dualshot: 31 * 2 dmg

Duration of OoP and OotV - 5 seconds = 1 dualshot and 1 or 2 normal shots

= (62 * 6) + (31 * 6)
= 372 + 186
= 558 dmg low end
= 744 dmg high end

all of this before the dmg from the newbie arrows is taken into account, which would add on another 20-40 dmg

Another way I love to use my ranger is using Kindle Arrows, Dual Shot, and Frenzy together while using a half moon. Ahh all those little numbers going so fast give me a little warmth inside. Although, I'm sure something like Conjure Flame would be a lot better but... I supose thats just my preferrence.

I like to think that almost any build can "spike" damage. I mean, isn't that the whole idea? Who wants to spend 15 means fighting when you can get them in 3? The whole concept of the PvP is "take them down first." You can spike with 8 E/Mos using a bane signet. It's all in coordination.

It's a spike if it causes the dmg to one player to spike to a maximum value in a very short amount of time. Recharge doesn't mean much if you can keep the other team from killing you and resing the dead player.
